| ok lemme start off by giving a little background ok 2 weeks ago put a new optima red top in my mazda everything seemed fine truck ran and drove fine well started noticing a funny smell popped the hood and the battery was boiling so pulled it and the alternator and had them tested and the regulator in the alternator was bad so it was over charging the battery, ok truck has sit in my garage since then ok got another battery and alternator and now i go to start the truck and there is no power to the ignition and the dummy lights on the guage cluster not working but headlights radio and everything elese fine even when the key is in and door open the dinger dings lol so i know its not the batery well started testing wires at the fuse box (all fuses were fine by the way) ok well the guage fuse and ignition fuse both are testing as a ground meaning i hook test light to a power and touch to them two fuses and the test light, lights up meaning it would be a ground right? ok where do i start trying to find the prob and what in the hell could have caused this? i just dont understand how could it be fine one day and doing this the next when the truck has not been touched? fuck i hate wireing | |

| sounds like you might have a hotwire grounding out somewhere...also there should be a fuseable link in the wiring someplace that could have melted when the alternator was overcharging the battery, that could be why you arent getting any power to the ignition... | |

| It's not the starter, there is no power to the switch as if the fuse was blown but it's not. And maybe I should get a keg Paco lol | |

| lol...kegs are good for any occasion.... sounds to me like you have a fuseable link blown...if you do the quick fix is just cut it out and splice the wire together until you have time to wire in a new one...either that or you have some melted wires somewhere | |

| Not sure what your problem is exactly but I can tell you that they don't fuse grounds. What it could be is that it is grounding out possibly which should blow the fuse obviously, or it is just a circuit which rests at ground. I would tell you to honestly check all the fuses over again, check for power across each one. The fuse top will have two little metal spots you can probe.
Put one lead on ground and touch the other lead to each side of the fuse making sure every fuse has the same power across both little metal spots. Sometimes fuses can look fine but are just barely blown. This obviously might not fix your problem but would give you even more confidence in the fuses.
I also agree with Paco that it could be a fuseable link, however a lot of vehicles don't have these so if you can't seem to find one you might want to double check if it comes with one.
Another option would be to throw in a battery out of your daily or something that you know works fine. I've seen half dead batteries, or just bad batteries cause some real funky situations. It's a simple enough test that again could give you more piece of mind. | |
