wel i have a 98 silverado with too many random dents and scratches on my truck so im gonna try and do a quick paint job on here during the summer. i am thinking about doin the truck in black suede for temporary paint. my question is whenver your done you can cut and buff certain areas to get it shiny like regular clear correct? and question is are escalade front end conversions played out now? i like the conversions but i also wouldnt mine doing a newer front end (03 HD 3500) but with the truck being my daily its hard to do big projects and being on a budget sucks too... but after bags its gettin tore down and painted.

" whenver your done you can cut and buff certain areas to get it shiny like regular clear correct?"

as far as i know, u cannot. for that satin finish its usually a single stage like john deere black or if its a base/clear setup, it has a flattening agent in the clear. it will still have the uv protection that normal clear offers, but it will be a satin finish.

---but i could be wrong.

alright thanks scotto and mikey. yea jw because in a mini truckin issue they were painting suede paint and said not to buff it. i might just need to stick with regular base/clear paints they aren't as difficult. thanks guys for your help

I like base/clear over single stage myself unless its acrylic urethane(single stage) and its a solid color. if you sand and buff metallic single stage it looks blotchy and sometimes gets dull due to cutting into the metallic. also some single stage paint tends to get a little chalky looking but I think it would be ok in a flat or semi-gloss paint job. as far as buffing flat or semi-gloss clear I'm not shure what would happen I am guessing that it would get a little more shiny but not as much as a high gloss clear. like mikey said I think they just have flattening agent in them but some paint companies also have an actual flat clear. I hope this helps a little. Smile

thanks man. yea i think im probably gonna try and just paint my truck at once instead of doin a temp paint job... just so many dang options lol. think imma go with base clear because there are more options as single stage as far as adding met, pearls, candys, etc... anyone know why grant kustons parts are so expensive? haha
